About UK ETA

The UK ETA application lets you apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to come to the UK.

Who can use the app
Information on who can obtain an ETA and how to apply before coming to the UK: https://www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation.
You can apply for someone else if they are with you.
If you are applying for someone else if they are not with you, apply online: https://www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation.

How it works
You need to:
1. Take an picture of your passport.
2. If your passport has a chip and your phone can create contactless payments, read the chip in your passport using your phone.
3. Scan your face using the camera on your phone.
4. Take a photograph of yourself.
5. Respond questions about yourself.
6. Pay for your application.

Before you start
You need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a awesome quality photograph of yourself.
You need:
• the passport you’ll use to travel to the UK - not a photocopy
• a credit card, debit card, Google Pay
• access to your emails

You need take photos of the:
• passport
• face of the person applying

You do not need to enter your travel details.
Applying takes around 10 minutes.

What happens next
You'll generally obtain a decision within Three working days, and you may obtain a decision on the same day. It can take longer if we need to create further checks.
We'll link your ETA digitally to the passport you applied with. You must use this passport to travel to the UK. You do not need anything else, including your:
• decision email
• reference number
